This four week Introduction to Iyengar Yoga is for beginners that are new to yoga or the Iyengar method. Students will learn step by step (literally!) some of the basic foundations of standing poses, forward bends and light introduction to inversions. Each class will gradually build upon the other in a very safe, clear and concise way, giving each student a safe foundation and good preparation for public Iyengar classes. This series was made with beginners in mind. No previous experience with yoga is required. All are welcome.

Iyengar yoga emphasizes precise alignment of the body and points of stability within each asana (posture/pose). Each asana is held to absorb instructions, building endurance, stamina and poise. Props such as blocks, chairs, blankets, etc. are used to facilitate student ability and make the asanas accessible to all.

Samantha Rasmusen has been practicing yoga for 10 years and teaching yoga to youth and adults for 4 years. In December 2009, Samantha completed her Advanced Studies Teacher Training at The Iyengar Yoga Institute of San Francisco. As Samantha struggles with the hereditary onset of Fibromyalgia, she believes yoga to be the ultimate preventative medicine as well as the best physical, emotional, and psychological therapy. Asanas (poses) lead her to her soul, her true self, where she can experience tremendous peace, happiness, and freedom. She believes, as Sri Iyengar states: "It is the quest of the soul, the spark of divinity within us, which is the very purpose of yoga."
