Last night I did it again (feeling better this time) and it wasn't just my awareness of the rest of my body that was expanded. I began to feel this deep recognition and love, compassion for whatever part of my body I focused on. Feet, arms, back... even things that I normally consider undesireable - scars, weak areas, my bald head. For those moments I was able to deeply accept anything I focused on. So nice.

it takes a perceptive and alert mind to trace discomfort back to something we have eaten....that is pretty cool!!
it is hard to believe that just putting attention on one part of our body can expand and deepen our awareness of other places...i was amazed the first time i tried it...it is a great way to fall asleep

The first time I tried this, I could feel such strong sensations in my hands. But after a minute or two I became really distracted by a stronger, uncomfortable feeling of agitation in my body. I eventually connected that feeling to having drunk a large drink with artificial colors and sweeteners a short while before.

The exercise of focusing on my hands brought me to a deeper awareness of my entire body within just a few minutes. I didn't expect that to happen so quickly.

Kabat-Zinn's description in the video of Allowing as opposed to Struggle is great. Denial vs. Acceptance of your current situation can make such a huge difference in our ability to work toward whatever change we want.

"Notice too, how it feels to be more connected to your body..."

It's like my body is saying, "ahhhh, yes." Thank you.

I remembered to observe my breath this morning before jumping out of bed. I was so relaxed and grounded that I proceeded to do more. I started to stretch and do modified poses (i am injured at the moment, so I cannot many poses at all)

Such a simple tip, but it goes a long way. It's amazing how often I realize I am not breathing deeply and how calm and centered I feel when I remember to observe this phenomenon that is always there for me - one hopes :)

Well, I remembered to observe my breath right before I fell asleep, and it actually knocked me out. However, I did forget to do it before I got out of bed. I completely forgot. I realized that I had forgotten sometime this afternoon, at which point I stopped what I was doing and took a moment to observe my breath. I think I will set that note beside my bed tonight :)
